The History of Port Edward Restaurant

Ed Wolowiec was a 1st generation American who was ready to work. His work ethic ran deep due to his parents. Ed’s parents emigrated from Poland in the 1890s. This taught Ed to be self-motivated and determined in everything he did. His motivation and determination drove him to graduate from Holy Trinity High School and VanderCook College of Music. This is where Ed demonstrated his natural ability and love for the arts, especially music. By 1954, Ed was in charge of producing a music radio show and conducting military bands. His greatest contribution to music was becoming a Music Supervisor at the Wood Dale public school system.

However, Ed’s interests were all across the board, which led him to his new hobby, scuba diving. In the ’50s, Ed went to Florida in the Caribbean. This is where his love for the ocean and his extensive nautical collection began to take form. His nautical journey eventually led him to receive an offer to become a partner at a waterfront bar in Algonquin. Four years later, Ed bought the property and bought out his partner. And now, the story of Port Edward begins.

The restaurant was founded by Edward Wolowiec in 1964. Ed wanted to maintain his love for music, so he continued to apprentice visiting fantastic restaurants throughout Europe, the Caribbean, and the States. By the 1970s, Port Edward was starting to build up loyal customers and a larger restaurant. To this day, Port Edward Restaurant remains a success. Ed continues to never give up and to keep looking forward. “I’m a forward-looking person. I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and find what new challenges await.” Ed’s efforts to create such a beautiful restaurant continues to bring in new customers from all across the world.
